GUIDELINES TO CONTRIBUTORS

Original Research articles in any field of science are invited from bonafide members of the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Sciences for publication in the "Oriental Science”, an official organ of the Academy. Review articles of general interest may also be considered. The manuscript should be submitted in duplicate along with a certificate stating that the information embodied in the communication has not been published and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

The manuscript should either be (1) typed in double space on one side of the good quality paper (20x30cm app.) giving 2.5 cm. margin all round or (2) typed in "WORD" in Floppy Disk/CD, accompanied by a copy of the text on paper. Normally the script should not exceed ten typed pages including abstract, tables and references. Manuscript may generally be organized in the following order: A concise and informative title followed by an abstract not exceeding 200 words giving the significant findings; a few key words for indexing and information retrieval; introduction; materials and methods; results; discussion; acknowledgements; refer­ences. Text should be in English, well written, precise and to the point.

Tables should be numbered in Arabic numerals in order of their mention in the text. A comprehensive title should be typed above the table. Footnotes should be indicated by superscripts and typed at the bottom of the tables.

A separate cover page of the manuscript should be attached bearing only the title, name(s) of the author(s), address (es) of the author(s), total number of pages, tables and figures. Discipline to which the article pertains should also be given, e.g. biological science, earth science, physical science, medical science, agricultural science, etc.

Figures should be drawn in black ink on white board or tracing paper. Neatly drawn and labelled figures are required and should not exceed 18x15cm size.

Photographs should be of good quality and in black and white on glossy paper. Number of figures and photographs in the order of their citation in the text, with brief captions are to be given on a separate sheet of paper. Units and Symbols should follow the metric system. The reference list should be arranged alphabetically according to the surname of the first author. More than one reference of the same author(s) for different years should be arranged chronologically.

References should follow the pattern of examples given below:

Journal article:

Abbreviations of journal titles in the reference list should follow the forms used in World List of Scientific Periodicals. Short communications should not exceed four typed pages. Abstract of the text and title of the papers in the reference list are not required in case of short communications.

Reprints are not supplied free of charge to the author(s). A minimum of 50 reprints will be supplied against cost fixed by the Academy. All papers submitted for publication will be accepted only on the recommendations of the referees. The accepted papers will go to the press only after the cost of the printing is received by the Academy. The authors are required to submit a list of five scientists of the rank of Professor/Chief Scientist/Director, working in the field to which the article pertains, in other institutions.

Manuscripts complete in all respects should be sent to the Editor of the journal either personally against receipt or by registered post. All payments should be made to the treasurer for the Academy. Letter regarding updating of membership, purchase of journal, payment of reprints, etc. should be sent to the Secretary of the Academy.
